Portal da Propaganda www.portaldapropaganda.comBrazil’s expectancy to become a Cyber area shining star once again is now left for next year. With only two Silver Lions and five Bronze Lions in 2008, our results underperformed last year’s competition, when we brought three Silver Lions and six Bronze ones back to Brazil, and the gap becomes even bigger when comparing to 2006 (four Gold Lions, two Silver and three Bronze). The nations that impressed the judging committee the most were the United States (one Grand Prix, four Gold Lions, four Silver Lions and seven Bronze), Japan (one Grand Prix, three Gold Lions, two Silver Lions and five Bronze), United Kingdom (four Gold Lions, five Silver Lions and two Bronze), Sweden (one Gold Lion, five Silver Lions and three Bronze), and Norway (one Grand Prix, one Silver Lion and one Bronze).
The three Grand Prix were granted to “Uniqlock”, from the Japanese Projector for Uniqlo; “Sol comments”, from the Norwegian Mediafront for Scandinavia Online; and “Year zero”, from the American 42 Entertainemnet for Trent Reznor/Nin. The “Vouyer”, project from the New York BBDO for HBO, that has already taken two GPs in this festival’s edition, in Promo and Outdoor, conquered a Gold Lion in this area.
Among the Brazilian agencies, seven of them kept one Lion each. Gringo.nu (in an institutional piece) and JWT (for Globo publishing house) were awarded a Silver one, while ClickAgency (for Rolling Stone Magazine), AlmapBBDO (Greenpeace), McCann Erickson (GM), Sinc (Reckitt Benkiser) and Wunderman (AACD) kept Bronze Lions. The Cyber Agency of the Year award went to the British Lean Mean Fighting Machine, American Crispin Porter + Bogusky (winner of the 2007 title) came in second and the Japanese Projector, in third.
Thanks to the large number of pieces in the shortlist, Brazil managed to maintain a place among the five best countries in Cyber. Heading the scores are the United States, with 119 points (one Grand Prix, four Silver Lions, four Silver, seven Bronze and 50 Finalists), followed by the United Kingdom, with 90 (4 Gold, 5 Silver, 2 Bronze and 31 Finalists); Japan comes in third, with 73 (1 GP, 3 Gold, 2 Silver, 5 Bronze and 17 Finalists); Sweden is in fourth, with 60 (1 Gold, 5 Silver, 3 Bronze and 13 Finalists); and Brazil in fifth, with 56 points (2 Silver Lions, 5 Bronze and 31 Finalists).
Two Brazilians were part of the 2008 Cyber judging committee: Paulo Sanna, criative director of McCann Erickson; and Sérgio Mugnaini, creative director of AlmapBBDO.
