Germany is first and Brasil second in Outdoor

Karan Novas

Two Silver Lions and three Bronze Lions are Brazil’s final result in Outdoor. Even without reaching last year’s great campaign level, when we won three Gold Lions and four Bronze Lions, this time the country didn’t disappoint André Lima, NBS’s partner creative director, and Brazilian judge in this area, either. “It was an average outcome. Not good when compared to the festival’s former edition, but if we consider what we inserted in the shortlist, we managed to award quite a few pieces”, emphasizes the creative.

The judges granted nine Gold Lions, 21 Silver Lions and 33 Bronze ones as total, thereof only Germany and Malaysia got more than one golden statue – two each. The Germans, who placed 90 pieces (49 campaigns) in the shortlist, stayed in the top of the rank, with two Gold Lions, two Silver Lions, five Bronze Lions and 71 Finalists, reaching 110 points.

Brazil, that was running with 56 finalists (28 chances of Lions), winded up in second, with two Silver Lions, three Bronze Lions and 42 finalists (61 points). The US comes in third, with one GP, one Gold Lion, one Silver and 24 finalists (46 points); Thailand is fourth, with three Silver Lions, one Bronze and 25 finalists (43 points); Malaysia is the fifth, with two Golden Lions, one Silver, one Bronze and 18 finalists (40 points).

Both of the Brazilian Silver Lions were granted to AlmapBBDO, for the creation of the pieces “Race”, “Boxing” and “Basketball”, for Pepsico; and “Beer box”, “Egg box”, “Fruit box” and “Milk box”, for Volkswagen. The Bronze awards were kept by Fischer America, for a Panasonic campaign; Lew Lara\TBWA, for the pieces created for De La Croix; and Santa Clara Nitro, working for Fox.

The Grand Prix was granted to New York BBDO for its project “Voyeur projection installation” developed for HBO. High definition projectors generated images on the side wall of a building, as if they had been removed, appealing to the passer-by’s curiosity, who would stop to watch different stories that took place in each of the apartments. The case has already taken the Promo Grand Prix, and, according to Lima, it may collect prizes in the Cannes Festival’s 55th edition. “It’s an exceptional work not only in Outdoors, but as an idea and as an accomplishment. I’m sure this project will be well distinguished in other areas”, foresees the Brazilian judge.
