Portal da Propaganda www.portaldapropaganda.comThe first three Brazilian Lions in the 2008 Cannes Festival have just been announced and they are a novelty, since it’s the first time we celebrate Promo Lions. They are three Bronze Lions in an area that was recently created in 2006, in which, up till now, we remained without any awards, other than our presence among the finalists. The promotional project “iPod no Palito”, by Bullet to Unilever, kept two of the Bronze Lions awarded, as it did equally well in two categories: Products & Services and Promotional Packaging.
The third Brazilian award was granted to “Adesivo de ninho de passarinho”, by FabraQuinteiro to Instituto Brasileiro do Meio-ambiente (Brazilian Institute of Enviroment).
Considering that Brazil had placed four works in the shortlist, and that only the piece by Giovanni Draft FCB to Bristol-Myers Squibb, named “Door stopper” didn’t get a statue, we’ve reached a ratio of 75% of the Brazilian pre-selected awarded pieces, adding ten points in this area.
The Grand Prix was awarded to the United States, distinguishing New York BBDO’s work to HBO. The country also conquered three Gold Lions, one Silver Lion, one Bronze Lion and seven finalists, gathering 46 points, but was overtaken by Germany, that headed the shortlist with 28 cases and was granted two Gold Lions, three Silver Lions, one Bronze Lion and 22 finalists, summing up to 54 points.
New Zealand ranks in the third position, with two Gold Lions, three Silver Lion, three Bronze Lions and six finalists (44 points), followed by Spain, with three Gold Lions and seven finalists (28 points); Switzerland, with one Gold Lion, two Bronze Lions and one finalist (14); and Japan, with one Golden Lion, one Silver Lion and two finalists (14).
